Rabbi Mark Fishman Leads Congregation to Attend the Million People Wedding

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA, November 25, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The deaths last week of Rabbi Ya’akov Litman and his son Netanel, 18, who were shot to death by Palestinian terrorists outside Otniel south of Hebron marked a tragedy that no family should ever have to bear. The tragedy was compounded because Rabbi Litman’s daughter, Sarah was to be married that same weekend. Yet, despite this, Sara and and her fiancé Ariel then made an astonishing announcement. In defiance of the terrorist’s that murdered her family members, the couple extended their wedding invitation asking all of Israel to celebrate with them.

Their gesture resonated around the world and in Canada the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Tikvah , Ahavat Shalom Nusach Hoari located in Dollard des Ormeaux, Quebec, Rabbi Mark Fishman, was moved by this kind and defiant response at a time of immeasurable grief. He and his congregation decided to show their support for the Litman’s and the nation of Israel by attending the wedding.

Rabbi Fishman further explained his action saying, “I was moved and indeed inspired by her fortitude. I spoke in synagogue (Congregation Beth Tikvah) and told those attending that I would be flying out to Israel to dance at this wedding and be a part of the epic saga that is the Jewish destiny. Since that time we as a community have been blessed by individuals who have stepped up and wished to join. We are truly fortunate to have such leadership.

While we are 12 people traveling to Israel, we know that we carry the well wishes of countless people in our hearts.

For this special day, we invite everyone from all over the world to join us in this loving gesture - to pray and dance for the new couple.”

About Congregation Beth Tikvah
Congregation Beth Tikvah was founded in 1964 by a group of young families who were considered pioneers of Jewish life in the West Island. Today, Dollard des Ormeaux is home to North America’s fastest growing Jewish community. In 2007 they were honoured to have been selected to merge with Congregation Ahavat Shalom Nusach Hoari, helping to ensure the continuity of their name and long term stability of our synagogue.

The synagogue is a family focused providing educational, spiritual and recreational opportunities for all ages. While Orthodox in practice, they embrace every Jew and attempt to extend both a level of comfort and opportunities for growth for all.
