OSC Announces First Stem Cell Therapy Treatments at the Center for Regenerative Medicine

Orthopaedic & Spine Center preforms first stem cell therapy at new Center for Regenerative Medicine.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA, USA, July 23, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On Thursday, July 16th and Friday, July 17th, two patients were successfully treated with stem cell therapy injections in separate procedures at The Center for Regenerative Medicine at OSC.

Dr. Raj Sureja performed OSC's first stem cell injection on Thursday, July 16th. The procedure was done for the treatment of hip osteoarthritis in a 69 year- old female patient. The patient received amniotic stem cells from a placental tissue matrix allograft. Dr. Sureja noted “We are very hopeful that our patient will see great results with stem cell therapy. She is the sole care-giver for family members and is an extremely busy person. She does not wish to undergo hip replacement surgery and this therapy offered her a non-surgical alternative for healing and a life without pain. I am delighted we were able to offer her this option.”

Dr. Mark McFarland completed OSC’s second stem cell injection on Friday, July 17th. The procedure was performed for the treatment of torn meniscal cartilage and arthritic symptoms of the knee in a 66 year-old male patient. This patient also received amniotic stem cells. “My patient had prior surgery, at another facility, to repair his torn meniscus, but still had pain that limited his activities. I anticipate the stem cell therapy will restore his cartilage and allow my patient to return to a more normal activity level with less pain and without any further surgery”, said Dr. McFarland.

The Center for Regenerative Medicine at OSC treats patients with mild to moderate arthritis, tendon and ligament tears, back pain, rotator cuff tears, tennis and golfer’s elbow and a variety of musculoskeletal problems with stem cell or platelet therapy, which is perfect for patient who cannot or choose not to have surgery for their medical issues.
