New contemporary lodging in the heart of Guimarães

GUIMARãES, PORTUGAL, July 1, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In the heart of Portugal’s birthplace, Guimarães, there’s a hotel that is a house, but not just another house, it is Casa do Juncal (Juncal’s House). A recent space, opened just over 10 months ago, that has been hiding from great media attention.

“Casa do Juncal has appeared as a result of the combination of several factors, the will to transform an abandoned building into a city mark and an emotional brand for everyone visiting us was one of them”, explains the young couple in charge of this hospitality unit, Daniela Abreu and Mário Gomes.

It took more than six precious years and over a million Euros, to turn this manor house, from the XVIII century, into an urban getaway – the facade has kept its coat of arms.

In total, this unit has six modern architecture and design rooms. All rooms are different from each other, yet all of them have something original that give them a history and a unique life. A great example of this is the master suite where one can find a marble wall which seems to have been part of a city defensive tower, from the XIII century, which was discovered inside a cupboard and kept during the rehabilitation works of Casa do Juncal.

In three of the bedrooms, the bed is placed in a mezzanine, in the house’s attic, with an access through Japanese stairs.

The décor is sober, using straight lines, where white and grey prevail, design furniture is made out of cedar and strong colours are used in the bathroom.
The recovery of this hospitality unit was the responsibility of the architectural office “Outras Formas”, which besides intervening on the main building also created an annex space, with bold and contemporary lines. This space hosts the bar and breakfast room, facing the inner garden. Decoration was the responsibility of José Manuel Martins and the owner, Daniela Abreu.

Over the last few months opened to public, Casa do Juncal, has been much successful, especially within the foreign market, which “is surprised with the quality and differentiation of our offer”.
