Talented Turkish 1st AD Ekin Ergen To Work on the Upcoming Feature Film 'Rowen'

Ekin Ergen's renowned reputation as an extraordinary assistant director has helped her land the role of 1st AD on Tigran Mutafyan's upcoming film "Rowen."

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, May 5, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Having proven her ability to make a set work like a well-oiled machine, Turkish-born 1st AD Ekin Ergen is slated to dote her unparalleled talents upon award-winning Armenian-Russian director Tigran Mutafyan's upcoming feature film "Rowen."

The film, which is currently in pre-production, is a dark and twisted horror story of
a woman's lover being possessed by a friend from her past life, and the lengths she'll go to in order to get her husband back.

Most successful filmmakers know that in addition to having a strong story and a talented cast and crew, a diversely skilled and level headed 1st AD is one of the most valuable resources a production can have.

Winner of the 2015 International Euro Film Festival's Jury Prize for the film "Zoya," Mutafyan says, "The reason I chose Ekin to be my AD on 'Rowen' is because of her proven track record of success—a director is only as strong as his or her 1st AD and I know with Ekin on board the shooting of the film will go off without a hitch."

"This is a very layered film, which will require my undivided attention in terms of executing the artistic elements of the film and creating a coherent story-- for this reason alone I need an AD like Ekin, who has the ability to understand what everyone involved requires to do their job and can handle the immense work load that comes along with handling a film of this magnitude."

One of the first films Ekin Egren worked on as a 1st AD in the U.S. was the highly acclaimed dark comedy "Niko." Directed by Ilgar Ozturk, "Niko" follows a controlling writer who prevents the main character of his story from meeting the woman of his dreams.

In addition to winning the awards for Best International Short at the Independent Filmmakers Showcase and First Prize Thriller Short at Film Crash, "Niko" screened at the prestigious Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as had a special screening at the 51st Golden Orange Film Festival; and was chosen as an Official Selection of the Manhattan Film Festival and the Arizona Film Festival.

"On the set of 'Niko' we had crew members from all over the world and each of them had different production experience levels. As a 1st AD my duty was to keep the balance between each of them and make them work efficiently," recalls Ergen. "So from the beginning of the pre-production to the end of the production, I had to keep them motivated and get the best from them despite all the difficulties."

The success of the film is not only a testament to Ergen's skill as a 1st AD, but what is even more impressive is the fact that she served as both the costume designer and the production designer on the film as well.

"Because of my interior design background, we did the location scouting together and I gave him ideas about the set dressing," recalls Ergen. "For the last two years I have worked as 1st AD on all the projects he directed including two music videos and his short film."

Having an internationally diverse cast and crew can help to create an end product that is more dynamic, and capable of captivating a much wider audience, than one where each contributor sees the story from the same cultural perspective. However, in order for cultural diversity to work on a set where deadlines and demands create a high-tension atmosphere, an internationally seasoned 1st AD like Ergen is the difference between a hit film and a flop.

"Since there are many international people working in this business in Hollywood, it is very important to keep in mind people’s culture and their backgrounds," says Ergen. "We, as people who come from all around the world, are here to add one more block to American cinema, and keep it moving forward."

Ergen's work as a 1st AD has definitely brought invaluable contributions to American cinema. Most recently she worked as the AD on the films "The Monroes," "Road to the Well," "Covert," "Special Features," "Lost in Darkness," and "Do Not Disturb!"

Originally from Izmir, Turkey Ekin Ergen's name and reputation in the film and television industry are known internationally. Ergen has fulfilled a multitude of roles across departments, which has given her the knowledge of what every department requires to do their very best.

A member of the organizations Woman in Film and American Cinematheque, what separates Ergen from most other ADs and makes her exceptionally good at her job is the vast nature of her talents.

While in Turkey, Ergen not only worked as the art director on "Beware of Fun," a television series which aired on TRT Youth Channel in Turkey, but she also worked as the AD and editor on the TV shows "Time in Anatolia" and "On The Trail of Travellers."

In the U.S. Ergen also worked as the production designer on Marta Carracedo's ("Lonely Girl," "Sand Castles," "On the Wire") film "Rouge," which received the Merit Award at IndieFEST, and was an Official Selection of the International Film Festival of Cinematic Arts.

Ekin Ergen has proven that she is the kind of AD who has the communication skills and flexibility to allow everyone involved in a project the necessary space to do their job without stress.

Ergen explains, "People who are working in this business are not only working to pay their bills but also because they love movies and that’s why they are doing best. I always behave with this thought and that’s the reason they respect me and try to work even harder and faster."
