World Immunization Week is April 24-30, and University of Utah Health Care is urging HPV vaccination. (1)

Almost 80 million Americans carry the HPV virus, which causes cervical, penile, anal, and some forms of head/neck cancers. (1) Now the University of Utah Health Care is urging HPV vaccination during World Immunization Week, which occurs April 24-30. Nathan Bexfield, M.D. said that the HPV vaccine is “a wonderful vaccine that not enough people are taking advantage of. It’s one of the newer vaccines that we have out there so people are a little more skeptical about it, but it’s a very safe, very effective vaccination that should be given to both girls and boys to prevent disease. If people just look at it like that, it makes perfect sense that you would protect your child from a preventable disease that could end up hurting them in the future.” (1) Dr. Bexfield is a pediatrician at the University of Utah Health Care South Jordan Health Center.

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) points out that Dr. Bexfield is speaking about the approval of the new version of Gardasil on December 2014 by the FDA. According to the makers of the vaccine, Gardasil 9 is effective against 9 strains of HPV. This is compared to the original Gardasil, which only covered 4 strains of the virus. The study that led to the vaccine’s approval included 14,215 women. The researchers reported that Gardasil 9 prevented cervical, vulvar and vaginal disease associated with HPV-31, 33, 45, 52 and 58 as well as the HPV types covered by the older version, 6, 11, 16 and 18. (2) Importantly, Dr. Elmar A. Joura and colleagues wrote that Gardasil 9 “did not prevent infection and disease related to HPV types beyond the nine types covered by the vaccine.” (2) The new formulation was developed by Merck Pharmaceuticals (MRK). Merck Pharmaceuticals also funded the study.

However, clearly, neither the original Gardasil, nor the new Gardasil 9, can protect against all HPV types. Moreover, the American public should be aware that to date, there are no vaccines that prevent disease in those who are already infected.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD

Neither vaccine treats cervical cancer or genital warts. (3)

As the Gardasil website points out: “Gardasil may not fully protect everyone, nor will it protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV. Gardasil does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so future cervical cancer screenings will be important for your daughter. Gardasil does not treat cervical cancer or genital warts.” (3)

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) therefore recommends that men and women infected with HPV take Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin. The formula of these natural antiviral products was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR formula is effective against the HPV and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the HPV…reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (4) The study authors also wrote that “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (4)

Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are natural antiviral dietary supplements. What Treatments are Available for Genital Warts?

“There are no drugs approved against the HPV. Current treatments include procedures, such as cryotherapy, conization, and the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). These procedures use liquid nitrogen, a surgical knife (scalpel), a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, or electrical current to remove the abnormal growths caused by the HPV. These growths include cells that harbor the active virus. The procedures do not target cells with the latent virus. Since they do not remove the latent virus, these procedures only produce a temporary remission.” (4) In contrast, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR were designed to target the latent HPV, and were shown to reduce HPV symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The CBCD therefore recommends that HPV infected individuals take Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin.
