As World Celebrates Women’s Day – Sri Lanka’s new Government continues to Imprison Large Number of Tamil Women: TGTE

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA, March 6, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ --

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8th,Sri Lanka's
new Government continues to imprison large number of Tamil women political prisoners.
Additionally rape victims of Sri Lankan security forces are unable to find justice
and 90,000 Tamil war widows continue to suffer, said Transnational Government for Tamil Eelam’s
Minister for Homeland Mrs.Balambihai Murugadas.

“The new Sri Lanka Government which came to power largely with the support
of Tamil votes but still ignores the suffering of Tamil women” she continued.

One such example is, is the imprisonment of a Tamil mother and her 13 year old daughter.
Both were leading a campaign on thousands of Tamils who disappeared.
Mrs. Jeyakumari Balendran and her 13 year old daughter Vipushika were arrested a
year ago in March 2014. There are concerns that they were detained to
prevent them from going to Geneva to provide information to the UN Human Rights
Council, about the disappearance and death of four members of their family.
Her 15 year old son who surrendered to the army in her presence and
whose photo appeared in a government publication receiving rehabilitation in
army custody. Still the Government denies that her son in their custody.

The new President, who was acting defence minister during the war when
large number of Tamils were killed, has provided Sri Lankan military with police powers,
while denying Tamils Police and Land powers.

In a further development a parliamentarian has recently alleged that there
is reliable information that over 700 people have been secretly detained at
one Gota’s camp in Trincomalee in the Eastern Sri Lanka. Most of these
people were known to have been arrested by the army and have been held in
secret detention for more than 6 years.

Even though the Government have changed, the Tamil’s suffering did not stop.
