CANAL WINCHESTER, OHIO, UNITED STATES, March 2, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Kick4Life is a fast growing initiative in Lesotho which uses football to promote social change in the lives of young people. The charity has helped various causes in Lesotho including health education, long-term employment, literacy and HIV testing. It’s an international organization with staff and volunteers from the UK, United States and Lesotho.

Kick4Life is considered “the worlds first social enterprise football club, exclusively dedicated to social change”. It was founded by Pete Fleming, who started the initiative in Lesotho; and Steve Fleming who represented Kick4Life as a network board member of streetfootballworld. Currently the organization has a senior management team, Ambassadors(including Prince Harry and model Tyson Bedford) and supporters from around the world and separate board of trustees in Lesotho, the UK and the USA. Although they are a charity and social enteprise, Kick4Life has a football club based in Lesotho, Kick4Life F.C (which is part of the Lesotho Premier League), and they use football as a medium to reach disadvantaged youth and to bring about change in their lives.kick4life

Kick4Life aims at helping vulnerable young people through various programs and activities. So far Kick4Life has helped 50,000 young people go through intensive health education and life-skills development training. And thanks to them, 12,000 children have been tested for HIV, with around 400 testing positive being started on medical treatment, counselling and support. They have also supported 500 young people into getting long term education, training and employment.

The Kick4Life academy offers young people the chance to play football, receive health education and life-skills training, get mentored and be referred to key services like re-housing and protection. Most of the players on the team are past or current participants and coaches in the program. Besides the football team the organization owns a restaurant, hotel and conference center, which also provides training and employment opportunities for the youth in the program.

Kick4Life has won a number of awards and received recognition around the world as an effective initiative in bringing about positive social change in the lives of young people in Lesotho. It was named a Rising Star by the Stars foundation in 2013. In the same year it won an Enterprise award from Educating Africa. In 2012 Kick4Life won best practice from the Nelson Mandela Children’s fund, as well as the Community Award at the Global Sport Forum in Barcelona the previous year. In 2010 Kick4Life won the Beyond Sport award for Health. in 2009 they were again awarded, this time for Best Project for health at the Score4Africa awards.

There is no doubt the organization is making a difference in Lesotho, we can only hope that they inspire others to do the same even if its not in the same capacity. When it comes to charity and helping others, every little bit helps.
