On October 25, 2014 the Voronezh Philharmonic Hall hosted a classical music concert within the Silvery Lily-of-the-Valley project of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow, dedicated to promoting the artistic heritage of a great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. 

Taking part in the concert were Alexander Gindin, a world-renowned pianist, Merited Artist of Russia, and David Handel, American conductor together with the Voronezh Academic Symphonic Orchestra.

Under the baton of David Handel a suite from the Swan Lake ballet by Tchaikovsky was performed. “I do love Russian music,” said David Handel before the concert, “But performing Tchaikovsky’s music in Russia is always very exciting. The Russian audience greatly differs from the audience of other countries where I performed. Your listeners are rather sophisticated and fastidious, but it makes them appreciate the music more keenly, it can’t but inspire me greatly.”

In the second part of the concert a glorious Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra by Tchaikovsky was played for the Voronezh audience with pianist Alexander Gindin, Merited Artist of Russia soloing. “Tchaikovsky means a lot to me,” Alexander Gindin told us. “I am an awardee of the Tchaikovsky Competition, I am on the jury of the Nutcracker Contest, so this music is a huge part of my life. Of course, everyone perceives Tchaikovsky in their own way; it’s the music the listeners know well, especially if we speak about Concerto No. 1, the Swan Lake or the Queen of Spades. But it concerns Russia for the most part, people abroad are not so familiar with Tchaikovsky as I wish they were. That is why I do my best to promote his heritage.”
