Ely Buendia Rocks Brisbane on November 29

CITY OF GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, November 17, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Maria Pau really, really wants people to have a chance to enjoy Filipino musician Ely Buendia, whose tour of Australia will include stops in Perth, Melbourne, and Brisbane. She’s so eager for the concert to be a special live experience for the 1200 people in the audience that she’s running a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to support the Brisbane tour by raising $8,888 by November 24. One hundred of the people who support the campaign with donations of $150 or more will be rewarded with a seat at the concert. The audience is in for a treat with his performance because, as Buendia wryly observes, “To be a good musician is to know which notes not to play more than which notes to play.” His musical history has proven that Buendia knows well which notes not to play.

Buendia’s fans will be clamoring to see him when he arrives to perform in Brisbane on November 29. This multitalented musician is guitarist and lead vocalist for his bands; the songs he has written have been commercially successful and critically acclaimed, and the album Circus, which was released when Buendia was with the band Eraserhead, was the band’s second-highest selling album. Eraserhead was the first Filipino artist to receive the “Moon Man” trophy in honor of winning the 1997 MTV Asian Viewer’s Choice Award for the video of The Last ‘El Bimbo’. Written by Buendia, the song has enjoyed a long run with popularity thanks to the street musicians and orchestral composers who continue to play it.

Buendia grew up in the 80s, but his musical background is 60s classic rock from the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Velvet Underground “because that’s when it was fresh.” When he was in his fourth year of college, he realized that he was heading in the wrong direction career wise. Music needed to be his choice because, he says, “I was kind of good at it.” A film buff, he says that most of his songs were inspired by movies; for instance, Andalou came to life because of the film Andalusian Dog. Even his previous band, Eraserhead, owes its name to the David Lynch film.

Buendia is also a lover of books, and was greatly influenced by the graphic novels of Frank Miller, particularly The Ronin, the story of a Samurai who is transplanted to the future. For Buendia, this reading experience was life-changing and the thread of rebelliousness that shades Miller’s works is a theme that Buendia has applied to his music. The musician is branching out his artistic interests by writing a dystopian science fiction short story for which painter Jason Moss will do the artwork. For Buendia, books are “like a cauldron, pouring the ingredients, mixing it up.” For him, it works on a subconscious level. “I don’t think about it that much. I don’t want to think about it, actually.”

As an author, Buendia shares a bond with the driving force behind this campaign, Maria Pau, whose best-selling book is among the rewards that crowdfunding backers will receive. Pau’s has traveled all over the world, and lived and worked in 127 cities in places like the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Vietnam, Fiji, Indonesia and Thailand. Having overcome the traumas of addiction, mental illness, family issues, and stigmatization, Pau has turned her life around, uses no medications, eats nutritious foods, and is on her way to pursing a PhD in addiction studies. She is the founder of Coaching with Substance, an institution dedicated to eradicating the harm cause by addiction and its accompanying behaviors, one client at a time. Pau and her spiritual advisor and life partner, the Venerable Monk Xu, operate a sanctuary that provides spiritual enlightenment for hundreds of former addicts so that they can be released from the physical imprisonment of addiction to enjoy lives of dedication and purpose. Maria Pau has worked at more than 100 jobs in her life, but on November 29, she’s planning to take a break and enjoy the Ely Buendia concert. She hopes to see you there!
