Honda Lawn Mowers

Honda Power Equipment markets a complete line of 21 walk behind lawn mowers for commercial, premium residential, and consumer applications. The product line consists of 13 models in four different series, including HRX, HRR, HRS, and HRC.

Each product family incorporates a number of features and accessories for versatility and convenience: a variable height adjustment system; a large capacity standard rear easy on/easy off grass bag; the exclusive, Honda twin-blade MicroCut System® for precise cutting and finer mulching; discharge chute and leaf shredder options; and a choice of two mowing decks depending on model (heavy-duty steel with up to six height adjustments or resilient, easy-to-clean NeXite® that comes equipped with a lifetime warranty). Honda lawn mowers are the only of their kind to offer advanced and durable maintenance-free Cruise Control hydrostatic transmissions, Variable Speed Transmissions with an Adjustable Smart Drive™ or Select Drive™ System (depending on the model) that allow for ease of speed variation.

In keeping with Honda 's tradition of technological and environmental leadership, all Honda lawn mower models feature Honda 's easy-starting engines that deliver smooth, quiet, reliable four-stroke power. The compact, lightweight OHC (overhead cam) GC Series offers maximum power and high-efficiency combustion for home use; the GS Series provides power for premium residential and light-duty commercial markets; and the OHV (overhead valve) GX Series delivers rugged, commercial grade performance. Honda 's full line of lawn mowers meets rigorous California Air Resources Board (CARB) and EPA emission requirements, ensuring their availability and regulatory compliance in all 50 states.

The Honda HRX Series

First introduced in 2004, the Honda HRX Series pioneers the unique Versamow System™ with Clip Director® that, for the first time on any lawn mower, easily enables simultaneous distribution of clippings to both the bag and the ground. The past ten years has seen some exciting new advancements for this lawn mower line.

The Honda Versamow System™ is designed to be a complete four-in-one mowing system delivering the ultimate in flexibility. A Clip Director® lever located behind the engine cowling operates a sliding door between the lawn mower deck and the grass bag allowing the operator to easily:

  • Rear discharge;
  • Mulch 100 percent of clippings;
  • Bag 100 percent of clippings;
  • Simultaneously mulch and bag or rear discharge in varying degrees through 10 separate settings.

The system also offers a setting for leaf shredding where leaves are re-circulated until they are small enough to pass into the bag. All this can take place without tools or attachments required on most conventional lawn mowers.

In 2012, Honda introduced a new HRX Series model to the lineup – the HRX217VLA. This self-propelled, Variable Speed Smart Drive™ Nexite® lawn mower is a self-charging, electric start model equipped with a small Cyclon sealed lead-acid battery for easy and convenient starting. The battery is mounted on the lawn mower 's handlebar and integrated with a convenient automotive-style key switch. The five-position Smart Drive™ Variable Speed System allows the user to easily control the lawn mower 's speed by resting his or her hands on the handlebars – adding still more convenience and ease to the operation experience.

All-new for 2014, the HRXVKA and HRXVYA models incorporate the Honda Select Drive™ System, providing control, comfort and convenience to mowing customers. This unique system and innovative design allow the user to rotate the ergonomically located, speed-adjust dial – enabling the selection of a desired speed range while also engaging the Select Drive™ control handle to match the mowing stride. Once the control handle is fully engaged, it becomes an integrated part of the lawn mower handle bar, adding more comfort to the mowing experience. Speed also is adjustable while mowing by engaging the Select Drive™ control handle and turning the speed-adjust dial. In addition to the integration of the Honda Select Drive™ System, the all-new HRXVKA and HRXVYA models include the Honda 4-in-1 Versamow System with Clip Director®, allowing mulching, bagging, leaf shredding or discharging without the need for tools or attachments, along with the proprietary Twin Blade MicroCut System® for superior cut quality.

Honda HRX models are powered by the four-stroke, single-cylinder GCV190 OHC engine. In HRX electric start models, electricity is fed to a small starter motor incorporated in the GCV190 engine. All HRX models are available nationally through Honda Power Equipment dealers.

Targeting best-in-industry bagging performance, the HRX is able to mow 40 percent further before the bag is full, allowing the operator to empty the bag 40 percent less often. This is accomplished through the use of a 2.5 bushel grass bag, and Honda 's MicroCut® offset twin-blade cutting system that results in finer clippings that pack the bag more efficiently. Additional HRX features and benefits include:

  • The exclusive, easy-to-clean, rust-free NeXite® mowing deck, which allows clippings to circulate naturally for maximum mulching; the deck comes with a lifetime warranty;
  • A newly designed variable speed hydrostatic transmission (smaller and lighter than on previous models) that offers infinitely variable speed control and the ability to set and maintain a constant pace regardless of conditions. Speed is easily adjustable with the speed control lever;
  • The Honda Roto-Stop® Blade Stop System provides quick blade stopping without shutting off the lawn mower – allows for bag emptying without restarting the engine and self propel without the blade engaged.
  • Seven individual cutting heights – ¾ to 4
  • 9 ball-bearing wheels
  • Sealed control cables
  • A five-year full transferable warranty

The Honda HRR and HRS Series

The Honda HRR Series consists of four different models, each containing a number of standard features and benefits, including:

  • An easy-starting four-stroke, single cylinder GCV160 OHC engine designed to reduce weight and increase lawn mower maneuverability;
  • The world's first internal timing belt on a lawn mower with reserve power for the most demanding mowing conditions;
  • The exclusive offset twin-blade MicroCut System® that results in finer clippings that pack the bag more efficiently;
  • The Honda HRR 21 heavy-duty steel mowing deck;
  • An easy on/easy off grass bag (2.4 bushel capacity) for low-effort emptying;
  • An EZ Fold, adjustable two-position handle incorporating easily accessible controls, designed to maximize safety, comfort and convenience;
  • A height adjustment system, offering six mowing height adjustments ranging from 1 to 4 for different mowing needs;
  • Variable speed transmissions with Smart Drive™ Control; (all models except PKA);
  • A redesigned rear axle that improves lawn mower cutting performance at lower settings;
  • A three-year full transferable warranty;
  • 8 rear ball bearing wheels;
  • All HRR models now include six new designed parts for improved performance: guard and discharge; mounting plate (minimize grass blow-by); grass bag frame (new shape); grass bag (new shape); and a one-piece return spring.

Introduced in 2006, the HRR Series lawn mower line is designed to deliver exceptionally easy operation, high performance and superior fuel efficiency. For 2012, Honda introduced a significant design upgrade for all HRR models: the inclusion of the 3-in-1 Clip Director®. With just one touch, the operator can quickly switch from mulching to bagging, eliminating the need for a mulch plug. The HRR lineup incorporates a newly designed, lighter weight GCV160 engine for increased maneuverability; the new GCV160 model also has a redesigned fan cover for improved cooling. In addition, an improved scroll and ramp design allows for improved mulching performance by optimizing recycling of fine clippings.

The HRR216PKA push-type model is equipped with auto choke and the 3-in-1 Clip Director® for an infinitely easier lawn mowing experience at an affordable price. The HRR216VKA and HRR216VYA models incorporate the Honda Adjustable Smart Drive™ Variable Speed Control System that allows the user to easily control the lawn mower 's speed simply by resting his or her hands on the handlebars. By placing either one or both thumbs on the lever, the operator can easily control the lawn mower 's speed and even mow with one hand. For 2012, both VKA and VYA models now boast a ground speed of up to 4 mph (an 11 percent increase over HRR models in previous years).

The HRR216VKA and HRR216VYA lawn mowers also are designed with the 3-in-1 Clip Director®. The HRR216VKA includes an auto choke feature while the HRR216VYA incorporates the auto choke feature with adjustable throttle control.

For 2012, Honda introduced a new model to the HRR Series of lawn mowers – the HRR216VLA, a self-propelled, Variable Speed Smart Drive™ lawn mower with electric start capability for easy and convenient starting. The company 's newest HRR model also is equipped with the 3-in-1 Clip Director®, MicroCut® twin blades, and the new scroll and ramp design.
