LANSING, MI – Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) today announced the 2015 call for proposals through the Animal Welfare Grant. MDARD’s Animal Industry Division (AID) has $175,000 available for grants of $10,000 or less through Public Act 132 of 2007, the Animal Welfare Fund Act. Applications must be postmarked or received by email before 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, on November 10, 2014.
Michigan registered animal control and animal protection shelters may apply for funds to help increase the adoption rate of sterilized dogs and cats, and enforce animal anti-cruelty laws. The additional issues listed below are also fundable under the animal welfare act: • Animal control officers/personnel and law enforcement training • Increasing the percentage of dogs and cats that are already altered at the time of their adoption • Public education and staff training on state animal anti-cruelty laws and the proper care of animals • Allow the purchase of equipment and supplies for programs that receive grants under this act.
Each year Michigan taxpayers have chosen to contribute monies to help Michigan's animals at shelters via a check-off program. In 2014, 24 projects were funded and $164,772 distributed.
Please contact Debbie Mulvaney at (517) 284-5684 or animalshelters@michigan.gov to get an application or to determine if your facility is eligible.
