FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“A NOTHING BURGER”
AMADOR HITS APPOINTMENT OF “EBOLA CZAR” AS SPIN CONTROL

Stockton—Antonio C. 'Tony' Amador, a challenger in the race for California’s 9th District Congressional seat, continued his call for tougher action on the Ebola crisis by President Obama and criticized Jerry McNerney’s approach to the growing health care crisis as a “nothing burger.”
“Let’s face it, since McNerney was elected to Congress, he has displayed nothing but weak leadership. Singing the praises of Obama for appointing a political hack as Ebola Czar is not leadership,” said Amador, a former U.S. Marshal. “We need aggressive action to prevent the spread of this disease, not political correctness and spin control.”
Amador said McNerney should be on the phone to Obama urging him to implement an expanded travel ban and quarantine of travelers from Ebola “hot zones” in West Africa.
“The San Joaquin citizens I’ve spoken to don’t believe that Obama and McNerney are doing enough to battle the disease,” Amador said.
Last week, Amador called for tighter travel restrictions to slow the spread of the Ebola virus and a change in leadership at the CDC with the resignation of Tom Frieden.
“McNerney issues a statement voicing support for Ron Klain, a political operative who managed the Gore recount, as Obama’s choice to provide leadership on a serious health risk,” said Amador. “Praising the appointment of a person with no medical credentials is more evidence that McNerney isn’t really serious about protecting the health of our families,” said Amador.
“Klain is a notorious political operative that was appointed to repair the political damage of an Obama Administration that was out fundraising and playing golf rather than dealing with the Ebola outbreak,” said Amador.
Last week Amador urged the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security to consider a standard 21-day quarantine for anyone suspected of coming into contact with a person that is infected with Ebola.
“Action measures may not halt the Ebola outbreak, but it may provide the time necessary for the nation to build up reserves of anti-virals,” Amador said.
“Stop the PC posturing, Mr. McNerney. Now’s the time for common sense and action,” Amador said.

Rep. McNerney Taking Action on Ebola
Oct 18, 2014
Press Release
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney today issued the following statement on the recent cases of Ebola in the U.S.:
"I am monitoring the situation with regards to the current Ebola outbreak. My primary concern is the health and safety of our families and health care workers. I will be meeting with officials from several area hospitals to review their preparedness and make sure we make available every possible federal resource to help them.
"My Committee, Energy and Commerce, has jurisdiction over health care, and I will press the CDC to be ready to prevent the spread of this disease in America. We must continue to work towards more accurate and thorough screening procedures to keep new cases from reaching our shores. I am encouraged by the appointment of Ron Klain to lead the U.S. response to the outbreak. Mr. Klain must bring together all the appropriate federal agencies to minimize any further spread of Ebola here at home, and engage with West African authorities to contain the epidemic at its source."
