NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, September 23, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- “Sitting next to a triple pane window, while looking out on a cold winter day, people immediately notice the benefits of the product,” explains Aurimas Sabulis, managing director of Intus Windows (http://www.intuswindows.com/), a worldwide leader in the manufacture of triple pane windows. “There is no cold draft and the interior pane is warm to the touch.”

For comparison, Sabulis notes that when in the same setting, with a typical dual pane window, one will most certainly feel a draft near the window, particularly on cold winter days. This phenomenon, according to Sabulis, is known as “convection.” Warm air is less dense so it rises, but when it contacts the cold interior double pane glass, the air becomes cold and the dense air sinks to the floor. This cycle repeats itself and, as the air inside the room becomes colder, it begins to pick up speed as it sinks down past the window onto the floor. As the cold air sits at the floor level, it is pushed by the next incoming cycle of cold air, and pushed towards the center of the room.

“This convection process is what creates the draft that can be felt in a room on a cold winter day,” Sabulis says. “So, in essence, the draft is not actually outside air coming into the home, but the warm conditioned air of the home being cooled rapidly by the interior glass, creating a circular convection loop which creates the cold breeze or draft.”

In the convection process, according to Sabulis, the interior glass is stripping away and cooling the heated conditioned air of the home. The convection loop cycle is the reason why HVAC registers are often placed near windows.

“An Intus triple pane window will greatly reduce or eliminate convection,” Sabulis says. “This is accomplished by the high R-Value of an Intus triple pane window and the third pane of glass in the window.”

Sabulis says that the surface temperature of the interior third pane of glass will be close to the interior room temperature, unlike a double pane window. Since the glass surface temperature is no longer as cold, it eliminates or greatly reduces the convection cycle.

“You can sit next to a triple pane window on a cold winter day and the air draft effect or convection will not be felt,” Sabulis concludes. “A triple pane window not only improves the energy efficiency of your home, it also improves overall comfort.”
