Port and marine engineering experts to meet in Doha next week

Qatar Petroleum, Kuwait Port Authority, King Abdulla Port and Qatar’s New Port Project to discuss port expansion strategies and marine engineering projects

The Middle East has gained international recognition for its large scale and rapid construction of coastal and marine projects and AECOM is fortunate to be working on these ports developments.

DOHA, QATAR, September 9, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- With a flurry of activity in the port development sector, mega projects across the Middle East region have been gaining increasing attention as to how these projects will be delivered. The big questions at hand relate to the development of robust master plans and efficient engineering strategies, which form a critical aspect to ensuring project success.

It has been estimated that the Gulf countries are allocating US$36 billion to further develop their port infrastructure to handle bigger capacity. In addition, Gulf oil producers are expected to spend nearly US$15 billion on the expansion of their ports within the next five years which further boosts the huge and exciting opportunities for the region’s construction sector.

As regional authorities move into planning and implementation phase, all eyes look to defining the most cost-effective materials and innovative techniques that can enable project efficiencies such as improving structural life span as well as accommodate the increasing fleet patterns.

“We’re witnessing an exciting and rapidly developing time for the port sector in the Middle East,” says Basma Dawwas, Conference Director, IQPC Middle East. “It’s imperative that leading authorities, consultants, contractors and suppliers come together to discuss advanced engineering strategies that will support the government’s vision to transform the Gulf into a global shipping hub.”

“At the IQPC conference, important discussions with industry leaders about masterplanning, design, environmental and construction will take place in support of addressing challenges and advancing the industry,” continues Recio.

IQPC is organising the 3rd Annual Marine & Coastal Engineering Summit in Doha from 14-17 September 2014. Attending participants include New Port Project, Qatar Petroleum, Kuwait Port Authority, King Abdulla Port, ZADCO, ADNOC, CH2M HILL who will gather at the Intercontinental Doha Hotel to discuss port strategies and engineering innovations.
