Ahern & Associates Once Again Rallies to Combat Hunger

Founded in 1967, St. Mary’s was begun by John van Hengel with $3,000 and an abandoned building. St. Mary’s is the world’s first and largest food bank, and continues to support those in need. Andy Ahern, founder and CEO of Ahern & Associates, is announcing the launch of his biannual drive for support of St. Mary’s.

St. Mary’s Food Bank has established strategic hunger relationships with trucking companies, who waive any charge for delivery in order to help respond first to emergencies, providing medical support, food, water, and other supplies in the wake of disasters. 90% of funds raised go to feed families with small children and the elderly. 96¢ of every dollar goes back to the community.

With a donation of as little as $25, St. Mary’s is able to provide 175 meals to families in need. There are upwards of 49 million people who go hungry daily in the United States. St. Mary’s founder John van Hengel famously said “the poor we shall always have with us, but why the hungry?” Ahern & Associates CEO Andy Ahern has earned the distinction of being named a Hunger Hero for his fundraising efforts to combat hunger. 2014 marks Andy’s 15th year as an avid supporter. There are numerous programs that St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance has to combat hunger. St. Mary’s operates a Community Kitchen, a life skills and food service training program for those with barriers to employment. CK Catering is a program through the food bank staffed by students who are learning the catering business, and Kids Café and Backpack programs help supply children with healthy meals. Mobile Pantry, Hunger Heroes, and Citrus Gleaners are other programs available through St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance as well as those who support the group’s cause.
