It was programs just like the ones Elizabeth offers today that guided her to become the founder and President of E.M. Waterbury & Associates, a consulting engineering firm specializing in land use and land use development.

“Workshops and coaching and leadership training helped me create me,” says Elizabeth. “I realized I could be whatever I wanted to be. The assistance I received from others encouraged me to want to help others.”

Indeed, though her firm is among the most respected in the region, Elizabeth continues to give back by offering mentorship and coaching services to individuals from all different walks of life to help them balance their home life with their day-to-day stresses and priorities.

“As engineers, when we meet with our clients, we often begin with a fresh slate or a site that is a wreck; we develop a vision of what the space can become and design the work to bring that vision to reality,” says Waterbury. “It’s not much different from coaching. I listen to my clients to see what their needs are and design the best path to bring them toward what they’re trying to achieve.”

Elizabeth says it’s important to recognize that overcoming our obstacles is sometimes more than we can do ourselves. Having an objective third-party that can assist you and guide you through this process, is essential. Still, no one is going to truly affect change in your life but you.

“We have the power,” says Elizabeth. “We need to have the courage to seek out the truth about ourselves and see whether the things in our conscious and our subconscious are preventing us from moving forward. Just making a simple change in your life can disrupt the cycle and begin change.”
