Patrick Atkinson, GOD'S CHILD Project awarded by Guatemalan mayor's association

ANTIGUA, Guatemala - Patrick Atkinson, founder and international executive director of The GOD'S CHILD Project, was recently recognized by la Asociacion de Municipalidades de Sacatepequez (AMSAC) for decades of social work in Guatemala. The group, comprised of the 16 mayors in that department of the country, picked Atkinson and The GOD'S CHILD Project to receive the special achievement award as recognition for the nearly 20 years of charitable work Atkinson and The GOD'S CHILD Project have provided in the area.

Atkinson was born in Bismarck, ND, in 1959. He arrived in Guatemala in 1983, in the midst of the country's bloody 36 year long civil war. He has founded 32 distinct nonprofit organizations internationally. In April 1991, he founded la Asociacion Nuestros Ahijados on the edge of the notorious San Felipe slums near Antigua, Guatemala. La Asociaion Nuestros Ahijados, or The GOD'S CHILD Project in English, has since grown into a successful international nonprofit organization, with a presence in El Salvador, India, Africa, and within the United States. In Guatemala alone, the organization supports more than 3000 children and 8700 mothers that live in extreme poverty in their fight to break out of that cycle through education and formation.

AMSAC honored Atkinson and The GOD'S CHILD Project were presented with an award in front of a crowd of distinguished political, social, diplomatic and nonprofit organization guests that Atkinson has worked with throughout the years. The entire Guatemalan staff of The GOD'S CHILD Project was also present for the ceremony.
