The University of Tyumen (UT) has begun its selection process for a two-year master’s programme in “Concept Engineering in Oil and Gas”*, based within the UT Polytechnic School. The programme is partnered by Gazprom Neft, whose specialists and experts will be among the teaching staff.
Throughout their education students will participate in the development of ongoing engineering projects at Gazprom Neft fields, with a mandatory part of the programme involving specialist educational modules intended to develop students’ personal skills — in effective communication, team-working, the ability to use a wide range of information technologies, critical and logical thinking, and negotiation techniques. The evaluation of student performance will be very different, with considerable attention expected to be paid to the assessment not just of theoretical knowledge, but also the ability to apply this in actual professional activities. Training of students in this specialism is currently almost non-existent in Russia.
In the context of developing cooperation with key specialist higher educational institutions in Russia, Gazprom Neft entered into a strategic partnership with UT in February 2016. Collaboration here will further improve the training of sought-after industry specialists in conceptual engineering, able to identify optimum strategies for the implementation of integrated field-development programmes. On Gazprom Neft’s part, the programme will be directed by Denis Sugaipov PhD, Head of the company’s Major Projects Directorate, Upstream Division, and CEO, Gazpromneft-Development, currently involved in preparing several of the company’s major new fields — including the Novoportovskoye and Messoyakha fields — for commercial development. Graduates of the master’s programme are guaranteed priority consideration by Gazprom Neft in any subsequent application for specialist roles.
* Conceptual engineering is the process of determining the most effective basis for developing a project (in terms of technical specifications and financial criteria), to optimum financial advantage. An integrated project envisages full project management throughout all stages of exploration, development, field development and operation, the procurement of appropriate technology and equipment, and the preparation of feasibility studies to ensure a viable return on investment.
Gazprom Neft is committed to developing its collaboration with higher educational institutions throughout Russia. The company has partnered with leading higher educational institutions including the National Mineral Resources University (Mining University), St Petersburg, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, Moscow State University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Ufa State Oil Technical University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Omsk State Technical University, and others. “Gazprom Neft” foundation faculties are currently operating at three leading universities within Russia.
